Worship While I’m Waiting

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him…”

We have all likely read Pslam 37:7 numerous times, and have maybe even quoted it to someone who was acting impatient. But the truth is, there are times when it’s incredibly difficult to wait and be patient.

In my life, there have been so many times I have struggled to understand God’s timing. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3, “For everything there is a season…” But in a season of waiting, it can be so very difficult to trust in God’s timing and not our own.

I’m once again in a season of waiting, and the other day, I was praying for patience and doing my best to fully trust the Lord in this season. The song “While I’m waiting” kept popping into my mind. The song, from the movie Fireproof, by John Waller, goes like this:

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You Lord and I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You Lord, though it is painful
But patiently I will wait

Later in the song, this section really stuck out to me:

And I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting

These words really convicted me. So often it’s easy to focus on what we want. Even if what we desire are good things, we forget to also live in the moment and worship while we’re waiting…even in the hard times!

We should be asking ourselves, “What can I do while I wait that will glorify the Lord?” If we open our hearts, what can He teach us through this season of waiting?

I love the part of the song that says “I’m am hopeful…I’m waiting on your Lord.” When waiting is SO PAINFUL, we are STILL supposed to find hope in the Lord.

The Bible also says in Isaiah 40:31,

“But those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”

Waiting is still hard. But in seasons of waiting, remember to put your trust in the Lord and have hope in His perfect timing, even when you lack understanding. And most importantly, worship Him even while' you’re waiting.
